In was was to become an annoying trend in Myanmar, our bus dropped us in Nyaung U (near Bagan) before 4am. A group of us began heading thoward the town, stopping to pass the earlier hour at what seemed to be an all-night tea house. One of the first guest houses we came to was Shwe Na Di. Having 2 rooms free, a single and a twin, 2 of us broke off and check in there.
Shwe Na Di’s rooms were adequate, but nothing spectacular. Though they did have particularly curious sheets of children’s characters. The squat toilets and cold showers were all outside, so it was certainly better to try and shower in the heat of the day.
The staff were all extremely kind and helpful, one even bringing me to his ‘brother’s” nearby home in a hidden residential street where I could get some torn clothes sewn up.
They also rented ebikes or bicycles for exploring the expansive ruins of Bagan. While many businesses are beginning to do this, it was helpful to deal with the same people.
Shwe Na Di Guest House Bed Cost:
- Single Room (Shared Bathroom): 10,000 kyat / US$10.00
- Twin Room (Shared Bathroom): 15,000 kyat / US$15.00
